No Ose-pipe ban forcast for this year

One of the the things that leaped out of the press on our recent trip back to London (see previous post) was the introduction of a hose-pipe ban in the South and South-East regions of England from April.  Never being one to pass up an obvious opening for a bad pun I had the title for this piece within a few seconds.

But really, if we could share the fruits of our weather with you, the drought orders would be lifted in a trice.  We’ve had about one completely dry day in the past 17.  If you don’t believe me you can consult the excellent Dunvegan Weather Station website, one of a number of such sites for Skye, and the nearest to us.  I’m not complaining, but the locals (I don’t know how long we have to be here to qualify as such, but having an English accent is certainly no impediment) will tell you that it has been an exceptionally wet and stormy winter, and indeed, previous summer and winter, and the data backs it up.  With garden planning underway, I’m searching for cold-resistant rice…
